Why I Became Certified...
I’m Maryann Heid, a Certified Health Coach with credentials from The Health Coach Institute. My passion is working with people to help them live a richer, healthier lifestyle.
Growing up my father, who was born and raised in New York, was a cook. My parents were Irish, Italian and English, so food was a major part of our family. Dinners consisted of a meat, potatoes, vegetable, a salad and of course bread. This was every night! My dad owned several coffee shops where I worked beginning at age 13. He was the iconic meat and potato type of cook. Nothing was heathy. He was overweight with many health problems which led to him dying at the young age of 67 from a heart attack.

During this time, I became overweight due to my lack of exercise, the heavy eating and simply not knowing the right way to eat. I was one of those people who tried everything to lose weight. You name it, I’ve tried it. It wasn’t until my high school years that I went the worst way possible, and just stopped eating becoming borderline anorexic. I was barely 5 feet weighing a mere 92 pounds when my doctor told me if I got below 90 pounds, I would have serious health problems. It wasn’t just the weight but how I was eating. I would only eat basic salads and drink Diet Coke to feel full. I wasn’t getting anything substantial or healthful for my body. When I met my husband at the age of 22, I started to change my ways. He was into fitness training and eating clean. My life changed and I started working out and eating nourishing food. Finally, I was feeding my body the right number of proteins, vegetables, and carbs. But that “fat kid” was always in my head. I was so hard on myself. I was small and petite but if I looked in the mirror, I saw someone else. The fear of gaining weight again was always there so the yo yo dieting never truly ended. It took me nearly 30 years to finally realize I had to love myself first to truly break the cycle. Through prayer and meditation, I learned to love myself which made exercising and feeding my body good food became easy. Do I still have issues? Yes! But I look at it differently now. I’ve lost a lot of family members due to their life choices and how they ate. Now, it’s not so much about how I look or the number on the scale, which will always be there for me, but more about what I am putting into my body to stay healthy, fit and young.
I want to live a long healthy life without medications (I’m 62 and I am currently medication free). I want to keep up with my grandkids, to be active for them and active for myself. I want to live for those that didn’t get to live a long lifetime. I want to share with others what I have learned from life lessons and from education. We live in a toxic world filled with fast food, frozen meals, toxic chemicals in our cleaning products. We can change this. YOU can change this, And I want to help you!
